Sonja Leipold devotes herself primarily to contemporary, baroque and rarely heard music. Since her student days - flute and piano at the Mozarteum Salzburg, harpsichord at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna (MDW) - she regularly performs as a chamber musician and soloist on renowned stages in Europe, North America and Asia. The versatile harpsichordist's main artistic focus is on the creative development of the contemporary harpsichord. In inspiring collaboration with composers from all over the world, Sonja constantly creates and performs new music at festivals in more than 30 countries. Further testimonies to her diverse artistic activities include her participation in the film Licht (2017) as well as regular engagements with orchestras such as Bach Consort Wien, Capella Leopoldina, Ensemble Castor, Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, RSO, Tonkünstler, NeuRaum, reconsil, Phace, airborne extended. As an accompanist, she has collaborated with Emma Kirkby, Barthold Kuijken and Nikolaus Harnoncourt. Sonja Leipold is teaching at MDW (University of Music in Vienna) since 2015.
